Mike grew up in North Bay, Ontario and was introduced to the guitar by his father and eventually, after much experimenting with other instruments, found the guitar to be an instrument that gave him the voice and challenge he needed. In addition, Mike also studied several wind instruments, orchestral music having always been a part of his listening diet. Mike's influences include music from almost any idiom as he has always found enjoyment in new (or old) sounds that he hs not yet heard.
After studying classical and jazz guitar with some great teachers in Northern Ontatrio, Mike moved to Toronto to study at Humber College where he graduated with honors, the presidents letter and the Guitar Award.
While in Toronto over a 15 year period Mike worked with many of the local bands in the club and live-event scene including The Sarah Morrison Band (Canadian Idol), The Laura-Lynn Band, The Kenny Simon Band, Nightfly, Groove Matrix, The Downstroke and Naked Brunch as well as running his own jazz trios and small rock bands. During this time he has played across Canada and the United States extensively and learning from all the great players he has had the pleasure of working with. Being an accomplished singer, Mike lends his vocal talents in most of the performances he is a part of.
Writing music has always been Mike's bliss. Getting deep into the sounds of chords and melody or writing good lyrics have been among his greatest enjoyments. Hopefully you will find something touching in his music.
In 2003 Mike and Anique Robitaille did a 2-month tour through the US with their original band Starry Day featuring their CD "See You In The Spring". The trip took them down through central United States, across to Florida to Miami and back up the east coast to New York city where they played CBGB's, which sadly closed October 16th, 2006 after 33 years of bringing great underground music to the public
Mike continues his exploration of the guitar in his own way as well as seeking guidance from many great guitarists including Lorne Lofsky and Nate Radley. Currently living and playing in Bermuda, Mike is working on a new album which he hopes to release by January 2011
